JOHN - I woke up pretty early on Wednesday morning, raring to go. Jayma was in the other bed sleeping away so I didn't want to bother her. So, I got up, showered and went down for my complimentary breakfast. Well, it wasn't the best breakfast but it did have Froot Loops and orange juice, so I was a happy camper. Since I am a gentleman, I grabbed some muffins, cereal and orange juice and took it to Jayma. Talk about service!!
After Jayma ate, got dressed and all packed up, we checked on the times to see when the Action Figure Museum opened. We wanted to get past Dallas by 3:00 PM b/c that's when their rush hour starts. And from everything I have heard, Dallas has some of the worst rush hour traffic in the nation. However, I still wanted to see the museum and I talked Jayma into going.
We arrived at the Action Figure's Museum and it was everything I thought it could be. In fact, it is every boy's dream and every fanboy's heaven. Truth be told, the only difference between this museum and heaven is that the action figures would actually talk in heaven!!
There were action figures ALL over this museum. One display, the largest one, was set up like a boy's bedroom and there were figures all over the place. We are talking hundreds of figures on the wall, floor, under the bed...everywhere. You name it, it was there. Everything from Superman to Popeye to KISS to The Simpson's to Gremlins to Freddy Krueger to He-Man to Barbie to Godzilla and even one of my all-time childhood favs...Silver Hawks. This display looked just like my childhood bedroom, just on a much larger scale.
After we left that display, we walked throughout the museum. There was a G.I. Joe display, a Batcave that had all things Batman-related, some Star Wars displays, a toy room for toddlers and a WWII battle scene. Not only were there action figures, there were lots of pics, drawings by local artists, movie posters and even a Spider-Man pinball machine!! If you love toys or comics or you just want to see something out of the ordinary, I highly recommend you visit the Action Figure's Museum in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma. Just remember, if we didn't get lost way back in St. Louis, we never would have made it there!
After we left Paul's Valley, we started our journey south towards Texas. Once we crossed the border, we stopped at this amazing tourism center and grabbed ourselves some local maps and brochures. We also got some pics of us next to this cool Texas-shaped piece of granite. We were finally in our state!!!
Once back on the road, things were pretty unexciting until we reached Austin. Thankfully, we missed the Dallas traffic but we ran into Austin's rush hour. 35, the interstate we were taking, goes right through Austin and so we go stuck and weren't moving. And when we did, traffic was very sloooooooowwww!! However, I did get a good look at the Longhorns' stadium and knew I was going to be there in a few weeks. It didn't help that there was some pretty heavy rainfall and really close lightning! After finally getting through that Austin traffic, we proceeded towards San Antonio and the last part of our looooong drive.
We arrived in San Antonio around 8:30 and drove over to Jayma's mother's cousin's house. There, we met Lynn, her husband Jim and Irene. We had a delicious home cooked meal and received our keys. Lynn was nice enough to have picked up our keys for us so we were anxious to get to our new apartment.
We got to our new apartment and Irene was nice enough to help us unpack. Thankfully, our apartment was nice and clean and all of the furniture was here. That was nice because we were really tired and I think we wanted to get some sleep.
One of the final things we had to unpack were our bikes. We found that we had a little closet off our porch and decided to put our bikes in there. I decided to hand Jayma the bikes, over the rail, and then she'd place them in the closet. Well, as I was standing in the grass (I had sandals on), my feet immediately started to burn. At first I thought I had stepped in some poisonous grass or something. But after a few seconds, it really started to hurt. I ran to a lighted area, looked down, and noticed little red ants all over my feet. I immediately ran inside, jumped in the tub and washed my feet off. But it was too late, the damage had been done. The little fire ants had bitten me about 20 times!!
Since we got our second wind, we decided to put a lot of stuff away. In fact, Jayma got most of her room set up. I, on the other, gave up after a couple of hours and fell asleep on the couch, watching tv. Plus, my feet were hurting!!
All in all, it was a long two days of traveling but we saw some great things and we were finally at our new home! Now, the real fun stuff begins!!
